Religious institutions, especially Catholicism, have not been kind to women. Nuns are very much on the decline because they weren’t taken care of as well as the men. Women also complain that the opportunity for rising up in the ranks is poor.
Having women in charge might fix a whole lotta messes.
Yet, it is beyond me why women would want to claw their way to the top of an organization that views them with less regard, is overly concerned with their vaginas, extols money, and molests children.
Besides blaming the downfall of mankind on Eve, here are just a few of the many gems to be found in the bible:
Exodus 21 22 If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman’s husband demands and the judges allow.
As in, the beat down and premature birth are okay, but let’s not take things too far.
Leviticus 12 2 If a woman conceives, and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days. Leviticus 12 5 But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks.
Surely the process was the same.
Numbers 5 29 This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being
under her husband, goes astray, and is defiled, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute on her all this law. 31 The man shall be free from iniquity, and that woman shall bear her iniquity.
Sorry ladies, but you had it coming.
Numbers 30 6 If she has a husband, while her vows are on her, or the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound her
soul, 7 and her husband hears it, and says nothing to her in the day that he hears it; then her vows shall stand, and her pledges with which she has bound her soul shall stand. 8 But if her husband forbids her in the day that he hears it, then he makes void her vow which is on her and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul. The LORD will forgive her.
Husbands have to keep a daily tab on the careless speech of their verbose wives.
Numbers 31 15 Moses said to them, “Have you saved all the
women alive? 17 Now therefore kill every male amongst the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. 18 But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”
Moses commanded the execution of women and little boys, as well as the enslavement of virgin girls, two books after God spoke to him about the Ten Commandments.
Deuteronomy 22 28 If a man finds a lady who is a virgin, who is
not pledged to be married, grabs her and lies with her, and they are found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the lady’s father fifty shekels of silver. She shall be his wife, because he has humbled her.
In the bible, “humbled” means raped.
Deuteronomy 24 1 When a man takes a wife and marries her, then it shall be, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has
found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a certificate of divorce, put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
He probably found a mole near her vagina.
Proverbs 9 13 The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and knows nothing.
This just goes without saying.
1 Corinthians 14 34 Let the wives be quiet in the assemblies, for it
has not been permitted for them to be talking except in submission, as the law also says, 35 if they desire to learn anything. Let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a wife to be talking in the assembly.
Men don’t want their friends to know how stupid their wives are.
Biblically speaking, women walked a fine line between property and second-class citizens because they were viewed as dumb. Ironically, their continued obedience to the good book of mansplaining only serves to make this point true.
